Something Better This is a program specially designed for retiring employees. They are leaving soon, after 25-30 years of dedicated service to the company after giving the best part of their lives to the company, What can the company give them or do to show its appreciation and acknowledge their contributions? A plaque, a watch or a gold coin perhaps, with a small farewell party thrown in. Sure, they will treasure the gestures. BUT, you could do them SOMETHING BETTER! How? Retiring from one’s job is a very significant and dramatic event. Well-planned, it can be the beginning of a glorious period ahead. If not, it may turn into a frustrating and disillusioning one. Today’s retiree’s are far from being “over-the-hill”. Armed with life’s experiences, accumulated work skills and well-weathered wisdom, this phase of their lives may yet be their most productive and satisfying. Singapore’s number of retirees is going to increase substantially over the coming years. Whether they are going to disengage or carry on with continuous productive living is going to make a difference to the country’s social and economic well-being.
The Challenge Ahead Much has been talked about the academic institutions producing students who are ill-equipped to face the “real” world, the world of work and business. As such, most of these leaving students go through a very painful period of adjusting to their new roles as responsible working adults. Learning through trial and error, some succeed while others fail to realize that their full potential and capabilities. The problem is compounded by the rapidly changing work environment posing an even greater challenge for the leaving or graduating students. The “Challenge Ahead” program has been specially developed to prepare and equip students to face their future as working adults. It will shorten the “transition” period they go through, lessen the pain and trauma they will experience from the process, accelerate their learning and minimizing costly mistakes. Why the program is special…
